[Comic Review] The Pound: Ghouls Night Out #1

The Pound: Ghouls Night Out #1This issue of The Pound, the first of four in the new Ghouls Night Out story line, is the second time out for IDW since its 2011 trade release of Horror Business. And, it’s also my first time delving into the Pound’s waters.

I have to say, I’m impressed. Having no real knowledge of the previous release and back story  I’m already hooked. I’m going to assume this issue picks up roughly where Horror Business. A group of two laid off Cleveland city “animal specialists” join together for a business venture called “The Pound.” Little do they know what they would be in for.

In this issue, we get a decent build up of story for the rest of the issues in this series. Although it’s missing any real tie-in to Horror Business, that doesn’t really phase the reader any in my opinion.

To top it off, my enjoyment was roused with a guest appearance of The Creature (yep, that one). No spoilers, but, it was amusing to see that particular monster brought into the story via the crotchety old man hook.

All in all, the inking was superb. It’s crisp and I find it to be rather pleasing. Again, I’m not sure if the artwork changed from their previous outing, but if it’s any indication, this will be a series to follow. I am even going to make an effort to track down a copy of the Horror Business trade and add it to my collection.

Rating: 8/10 Gingered Digits.
